        <title>NUCLEAR MEDICINE ASSISTANT</title>

        <description>Position Profile	The Nuclear Medicine Assistant works under the supervision of the Lead Technologist of Nuclear Medicine. Performs patient transport, radiation surveys of the department as required by the State of California and other related agencies, quality control on the clinical cameras, processes radioactive waste and assists in the overall cleanliness of the department. Performs clerical duties such as ordering patient procedures, generating patient folders, assisting the Medical Secretary as needed and may be asked to do some medical transcription. Assists Secretary in scheduling and their paperwork. Also performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrates ability to perform competencies as outlined in unit based Competency Assessment tools. Demonstrates age-specific care as established for area and job title. As a team member, you will play an important role by collaborating with others and contributing toward our mission and values.
Basic Qualifications (required)	Must be able to speak, read, write and follow instructions in English.
Minimum Qualifications (required)	Requires BLS for health care providers throught American Heart Association upon hire.

Working knowledge of computer PC?s and word processing software.
Preferred Qualifications	Excellent communication skills, prioritizing ability and people skills.

Must be able to transport patients via gurney or wheelchair from patient care units to the department. Must be able to lift a person or object 100 lbs or heavier in a safe and ergonomic manner.

( ** Nuclear Medicine Specialist-PRN ** )

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Schedule will be on a rotating &apos;as-needed&apos; basis. (*Weekends and call rotation with possible week day assignments as needed.)

Graduate of an AMA-approved Nuclear Medicine program is required.

CMRT (Texas Department of Health), basic cardiac life support (CPR), ARRT (N) or NMTCB are required within 1 year of employment.

6+ months directly-related experience in Nuclear Medicine is required .(*New graduates are welcome - although experience is preferred).

Venipuncture and catheterization experience is required.

Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Self-directed and independent qualities are preferable.

Familiarity with Nuclear Medicine Quality Control Processes is required.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Greets and acknowledges patient using minimum of (2) patient identifiers.

Appropriately handles patients with IVs, oxygen, chest  tubes or other devices.

Recognizes patient&apos;s emotional, physical, developmental, cognitive, and psychosocial conditions.

Transports patients as needed.

Safely administers contrast media and medications in accordance to administration guidelines.

Checks physician&apos;s orders and requisitions to ensure accuracy of exam and relevant clinical information.

Gets appropriate number of staff and uses safe lifting techniques when moving patients.

Uses locks on equipment when transferring patients.

Prepares room for exam, performs complex procedures including age-related criteria and developmental considerations.

Demonstrates correct anatomical and positional annotations and information on images.

Knowledge of technique parameters to deliver high quality images.

Performs and produces quality Nuclear Medicine exams.

Interpretation skills to determine if need for repeat.

Demonstrates ability to send images, record patient information and retrieve information.

Safeguards personal information of others.

Ensures all records are handled in a proper manner.

Keeps NMTCB, TDH, CPR and ARRT (if applicable) licensure in good standing.

Adheres to HR policies, dress code, time and attendance, etc.

Passes annual skills evaluation.

Identifies self and department promptly when answering the phone.

Multitasks and actively maintains daily schedule and call coverage.

Follows Nuclear Medicine QA program.

Attends Continuing Education classes and other educational resources.

Ensures smooth operation and maintains professional image of the Department.

Creates a safe work environment.

Demonstrates cost effective awareness, avoid wasteful use of supplies and time.

Adheres to hospital standards for infection control for patient, equipment, and self.

Operates, cares for and general maintenance of equipment to provide proper utilization.

Troubleshoots and properly documents equipment malfunction to ensure timely repairs and patient safety.

Understands image quality, physics, and safety to public and self and can apply these principles.

Knowledgable of process to report patient events (SALT).

Identifies and offers suggestions for improvement to work flow and processes.

Follows quality control guidelines, adheres to workplace standards.

Utilizes available resources to further education and gain information.

Works in partnership with patients, families, co-workers and physicians to enhance the patient-family journey for a desired outcome.

Understands the value of teamwork and team building and applies these principles.

Ensures the patient confidentiality and safety are maintained.
